Bulldogs Season - Fall 2009

Bulldogs,
Just a quick update and maybe a few dates for the calendar as well. I attended the coaches meeting last night, whoo what fun! We got our team and of course it is still our wonderful group of kids as planned. We got new uniforms for the season, the same colors and I will try to see that everyone gets the same number they had last time they played. We will continue to play at 5 Star, we may be on the other small field next to the one we played on the last 2 seasons as they want to change it up a little.

Only a few dates to mention for the calendar right away:
• 8/19 – Schedules due out?
• 8/25 – First practice
• 9/12 – U6 Games start
• 10/3 – picture day
• 11/14 – Last Game (unless makeups are necessary)

So, the next order of business will be practices. I went ahead and signed us up for the Turner Field practice spots as places fill up fast. I chose Tuesday’s – 6-7PM. Pretty close to the same place we have practiced in the past if not the same (field #2). That being said, if anyone has an issue with the time or day of week, let me know and we will work through it. It did dawn on me last night that Cleve/Steph may have a hard time with Tuesdays, but maybe not until Cleve’s games really start in Mid October or so. If that happens, maybe we can get access to the indoor field (Cleve?) as the weather starts to change around that time and find a day and time that works for everyone. For now, I am thinking we may try to start practices on Tuesday 8/25 which gives us about 3 practices before the first game.

We will need volunteers once we know the dates for our concession stand duty. It is super easy, and somewhat fun actually. Goes quick.

So that is it for now. I did complete the background check as well. You will all be happy to know that I passed with flying colors, so our kids are safe….LOL

Also got a new game ball, and some more cones for lots more running.

FYI – I will probably utilize email and text messenging for any immediate practice or rain out notices so let me know if you don’t know how to text or email and also make sure I have your most important cell phone number. Just makes it a little quicker to hit everyone with updates.

If anyone is interested in being an assistant, let me know. There is a quick background check form (Free) just so they know your are good. Just let me know. Coaches badges will be printed on 8/22 in case you feel strongly enough to help me out. I got some big footsteps to follow in, but I know they help me when needed. I thank you so very much.

Any questions, please let me know. Looking forward to another fun season with good kids and good friends.

Talk to you all soon.

Swine Flu Update

Swine Flu Update:

From: no-reply@sportspilot.com Subject: Press Release from PARD - The Colony Youth Soccer AssociationTo: angela.knowles@sbcglobal.netDate: Thursday, April 30, 2009, 9:16 AMPRESS RELEASESwine Flu Cancellations: The Colony Parks and Recreation Department The Colony, April 29, 2009The City of The Colony Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) wants to ensure citizens that we are taking numerous precautions in response to the recent Swine Flu outbreak. PARD wants to encourage everyone to take steps to guard themselves against this virus. After receiving notification that LISD has cancelled all extracurricular activities until May 10th, a decision was made jointly between The Colony Parks and Recreation Department and all local youth sports associations, in conjunction with public health officials, to cancel all youth league games at City of The Colony athletic facilities through 5/6/09. This includes games for TCYSA, TCYFA, TCSA, TCLL, and Youth Volleyball. Sports practices for all athletic teams are optional and left at the discretion of the coach and team parents. This decision was made to mirror LISD's efforts to minimize the risk of exposure to the virus by limiting group and community activities. The "Saturday Nite Out" program for 5/2/09 has also been cancelled due to the large number of children who attend. Any further cancellations will be announced as the situation evolves, and further evaluation of league schedules will be made on 5/6/09.Symptoms of the Swine Flu are similar to those of regular or seasonal flu and include fever, fatigue, lack of appetite and coughing. Some with Swine Flu also have reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Center for Disease Control Emergency Management and Health Officials say that everyone should follow standard precautions to reduce the spread of any respiratory illness. Stay home when you are sick to avoid spreading illness to others; cough or sneeze into the crook of your elbow or a tissue and properly dispose of used tissues; wash hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water or use a n alcohol-based hand sanitizer. In the event that you or someone in your family should have any of the above symptoms, it is recommended that you seek immediate medical attention. In addition to seeking medical attention, it is highly recommended that you stay at home. After consultation with your medical provider we request that you notify The Colony Parks and Recreation Department if you have participated in any of our activities within the last month and are considered a potential carrier of this virus. For more information about any schedule changes or cancellations please contact The Colony Parks and Recreation department at (972)625-1106. Further information on Swine Flu can be obtained by visiting the Center of Disease Control website at www.cdc.gov/ swineflu.

Picture Day 2009

Hey Bulldogs!

We have a crazy week ahead of us!

This Saturday (March 8th) is PICTURE DAY! We need to meet by the playground at Five Star no later than 1:10 PM in full uniform. The boys will be taking individual shots and then a team shot. I have order forms if you have not received one yet. Ask me at practice tomorrow night for the booklet. Then, at 2:30 PM we will have our soccer game. We do have a gap in time between pictures and the game. Stay close. We will probably do some warm ups and drills to keep the boys occupied. Since our game is the last game and we are the "Home" team, Angela and I will need your help picking up the flags and goals at the end of our game and putting them in the storage room by the concession stands.

The game that we had scheduled on April 4th has been moved to THIS Tuesday (March 10th) at 7:15 PM at Five Star. We are the "Home" team for this game as well and the last game for the night, so Angela and I will need your help picking up the flags and goals again. (We believe these are the only two games we will have to worry about the equipment).

We will then have practice on Thursday, March 12th (time TBD) to work on skills and drills from the previous games and then our game on Saturday, March 14th at 1:30 PM. Please be at the field around 1 PM. So far, each game has started 10 minutes early with equipment checks and referee routines and we would like the boys to be warmed up before we throw them on the field.

There will be NO GAME on Saturday, March 21st.

We believe we will continue the two days a week practice. Over half of the teams in U5 practice twice a week and the boys played better at their game after the two days a week practices, which leads us to believe it works. Please let us know if you oppose this idea of two practices a week. Angela and I have also tossed the idea around of every other week being the two week practice. We are open to suggestions. Thanks to Coach Ryan for obtaining access to the indoor field at the high school on Thursdays.

We hope each of the boys enjoyed their "Bulldog Award" stickers and we hope we can continue giving out more than just one color a game!!

Call me or Angela if you have any questions or concerns!

Have a great day!!

Rebecca

TC Bulldogs 2009 (Spring)

Hello Everyone!

Coach Rebecca and I are very excited about the soccer season this year. I know we are going to have a great season. We are going to start practice next Tuesday Febuary 10th at 6:00 p.m. It will probably be kind of chiper so we might want the boys dressed a little warmer than normal.

Practice will be at Turner soccer fields-we will all meet up at the concession stand and walk over to the field together. Please remember to bring your soccer ball and shin guards are required at all practices and games. Practices are usually between 45 minutes to an hour. Usually whatever time we can get out of them. If you cannot attend a practice please let me know. Our first game is on the 21st of Febuary but I am not sure of the time.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me by email or just a plain ole call will do as well. My email is Angela.Knowles@sbcglobal.net my home # (972)625-2925. My cell is (972)948-8109.

I am really looking forward to seeing everyone again and for the first time next Tuesday.

Later Gators,
Angela Knowles
